Radical Acceptance

< Back

What have I been unwilling to accept in my life today? Why have I been unwilling to accept that situation/person/place/thing? These are 2 of the most important questions we can ask ourselves in recovery. Radical means all the way, total, absolute. And Acceptance means agreement with or belief in an idea, opinion, or explanation. So how do we Absolutely Agree with reality as it is?

Firstly, let me tell you what you can Absolutely Not Do! Do not focus on the why. In fact, skip over it entirely. No more why me? or why now? or why this? Instead, skip right to the What. As in, what just happened? Or what is the reality right now? Once the What has been established, we can get to the best part. The How. As in, How do I respond to this situation?

So for today, lets live in the What and the How and leave the why behind!
